Trump Pushes Back on Health Scrutiny as Age Becomes a Public Focus
As Signs of Aging Emerge, Trump Responds With Defiance
WASHINGTON — As renewed attention focuses on President Donald Trump’s age and health, the 79-year-old president has responded with open defiance. In response, he has dismissed concerns raised by doctors, critics, and recent medical scrutiny.
Rejecting Medical Advice and Public Scrutiny
In a recent interview, Trump acknowledged that he takes a higher daily dose of aspirin than his physicians recommend. Nevertheless, he has declined to adjust the dosage despite medical advice. Additionally, he said he briefly wore compression socks to address swelling in his ankles but stopped because he disliked them.
At the same time, Trump expressed regret over undergoing advanced medical imaging in October, arguing that it fueled unnecessary speculation. According to the president, the scan — later confirmed to be a CT scan rather than an MRI — revealed no abnormalities and was performed solely to rule out cardiovascular concerns.
Public Appearances and Physical Signs of Aging
According to people close to the president, signs of aging have become more noticeable both publicly and privately. Trump has been seen appearing fatigued during several televised events. Meanwhile, aides acknowledge that meetings sometimes require speakers to raise their voices for him to hear clearly.
Despite this, the president maintains an intense daily schedule, often sleeping little and working long hours. Outside of golf, he does not follow a regular exercise routine and is known for a diet high in salt and fat, including hamburgers and french fries.
Aspirin Use and Health Habits
Trump said his long-term aspirin use has caused him to bruise easily. Even so, he remains reluctant to change a routine he has followed for over 25 years. In explaining his decision, he cited personal superstition and a belief in aspirin’s benefits for blood circulation.
At the same time, he has denied struggling with hearing or falling asleep during public events, stating that he has always functioned well on limited sleep.
Clarifying the Imaging Confusion
For weeks, Trump publicly referred to his October test as an MRI. However, both the president and his physician later clarified that the procedure was a CT scan — a faster and more common imaging method. According to his doctor, the scan showed no cardiovascular abnormalities.
Delicate Health and Heightened Visibility
In addition, Trump has taken steps to conceal visible bruising, including using makeup on his hands. Previously, during his presidency, he often minimized health disclosures.
Nevertheless, Trump remains highly visible, frequently addressing reporters and hosting events at the White House.
Recent Medical Findings
Earlier this year, Trump sought medical evaluation for mild swelling in his lower legs. As a result, doctors diagnosed him with chronic venous insufficiency.
