Venezuela Earthquake Death Toll Rises to 3,535 as Thousands Remain Displaced

MB DAILY NEWS | Raleigh, NC.

CARACAS, Venezuela — The death toll from the powerful earthquakes that struck northern Venezuela late last month has reached 3,535, according to figures released Monday by Jorge Rodríguez, president of Venezuela’s National Assembly.

The new report highlights the scale of the disaster. Officials have not reported how many people remain missing. As rescue teams continue their work, the number of victims could still increase.

More Than 16,700 People Injured

The earthquakes have injured at least 16,740 people. Medical teams continue treating survivors in hospitals and emergency centers across the affected areas.

The disaster has also displaced 17,854 residents. Many families now rely on temporary shelters and humanitarian aid for food, water, and medical care.

Thousands Cannot Return Home

More than ten days after the earthquakes, thousands of people still cannot return home. Many buildings remain unsafe. Roads, schools, and public facilities also suffered heavy damage.

Emergency crews continue clearing debris and inspecting damaged structures. At the same time, aid organizations deliver food, clean water, medicine, and emergency supplies to affected communities.

Government officials have not announced when displaced families will be able to return or when reconstruction will begin.

Relief Efforts Continue

Rescue teams remain focused on finding survivors and helping injured residents. Authorities also work to restore electricity, water, and other essential services.

Humanitarian organizations warn that long-term displacement may create additional challenges. Many families will need housing, healthcare, sanitation, and mental health support in the coming weeks.

Recovery May Take Months

Officials continue to assess the damage across northern Venezuela. The full economic and human impact remains unclear. Recovery and reconstruction efforts could take months as authorities rebuild damaged communities.
